Seven Wells Properties Inc.
was
formed in 1996. The corporation was originally formed to
develop a 160 acre tract of land that covered most of the
South side of Lake Champion in Colorado City, TX. The
project evolved so that the acreage could be plotted and
subdivided into small tracts. Leasing tenants were given
the option to purchase their lots or to continue leasing.
Many tenants purchased their lots and some still lease.
The remaining lots are now available for purchase.
SWP Construction
a
DBA of Seven Wells Properties, Inc. was formed in 2008.
The idea for the company evolved when we met Mrs. Betty
Brenham. Clay Brenham, Betty’s husband was tragically
killed as he returned from Colorado City where he was
quoting a job to do some construction work for someone in
our family. We immediately formed a bond with Mrs.
Brenham. With each visit we learned more and more about
Clay and the kind of man he was. He owned a tire shop in
Lamesa but had also been in construction for many years as
a hobby. He had just recently purchased an excavator as he
loved spending his weekends moving dirt. Our observation
was that Clay and his wife Betty had been able to maintain
a comfortable income with Clay doing what he loved.
We lived in Houston at the time but had been searching for
a business that would support us so we could move back and
be close to our grandchildren who live in Post, TX as well
as other family members who live in Lubbock, Colorado
City, Big Spring and Clyde. My husband Urda had lived on a
ranch all of his life and had worked for 2 major Oil
companies for 18 years prior to us relocating to Houston.
Tragic events in life often make you re-prioritize what is
important. We knew without doubt that this was
confirmation that we needed and wanted to be close to
where we had grown up as well as our families. I also knew
that Urda would be just like Clay. He loved doing anything
outdoors and working in construction and running an
excavator would be a way for us to make a decent income as
well as allowing Urda to be in a job that he loved and
enjoyed. We both began to explore the opportunities as
well as the need for more companies and operators to do
oilfield work and tree excavation. After many prayers and
much research we felt this might be the perfect
opportunity. At that time, we took a step in faith and SWP
Construction was formed.
The next phase was to purchase our equipment. After being
redirected 3 times to a different sales staff for
Continental Equipment, we finally were connected with a
salesperson that would turn out to be the best we could
have hoped for. His name was Chuck and he diligently
worked with us for months making sure we got the best deal
and the appropriate equipment. Every time we researched
and more questions arose we called Chuck during the day,
after hours and even on weekends. Each time we changed our
mind this created the need for a revised quote but Chuck
hung in there with us and the beginning of a lasting
friendship began. After 3 months we finally felt we had
selected the right machine and tools. In December 2007 our
first piece of Equipment (a Komat’su® Excavator) was
purchased.
Our next immediate task was to figure out how to market
our new company and pursue business. Our first marketing
was at the Amarillo Farm and Ranch Show where we met Lance
Hopper, who suggested that we consider living in
the Midland area as oilfield service companies were
backlogged for months with so much drilling being done.
Lance gave us the name of another gentleman who was very busy
and thought he might be able to give us some direction. I
arranged to meet with this man and quickly knew he was a
true representation of an honest and hard working Texas
business man. He was truly a God send. It was quickly
apparent that he was compassionate about his customer’s
needs who had been patiently waiting for their projects to
be scheduled and he offered us the opportunity to take
some of his workload. With his help and guidance we began
our first job on January 8, 2008. I hope that next year I
will be updating this website with a story of success that
will have manifested from prayers, faith, honesty,
friends, and our desire to exceed our customers’
expectations.
We will always be eternally grateful for total strangers
who extended a helping hand and encouragement from friends
and family as we took this step to embark upon a new
venture.
We didn’t know Clay Brenham but we do know that a higher
power put two total strangers, together to spend their
last day on earth for a reason. It is our hope that their
memory will be kept alive by the beginning of SWP
Construction. It also our hope that other people will
recognize that two total strangers unselfishly reached out
and extended a helping hand to this company with no
strings attached and nothing to gain. May they be
abundantly blessed? It is good to be back in this part of
Texas where a man’s word is good and his acts of kindness
and good deeds will perhaps be contagious.
